We also went back to the urologist today. Didn’t get the response we had prayed for but know that he will be in God’s hands! Cade will have to have surgery next week to have a bilateral hydrocele repair and a hernia. I was not too happy when I left the urology office because I really didn’t feel like the doctor explained much or helped to prepare me.
October 14, 2009 – I got to pick Coop & Cade up from daycare! OMG! I don’t know how moms with twins do it! LOL!!! That is a lot to get in the car!
October 15, 2009 – I think I was ready to be committed to a mental institute!! This had to be one of the hardest, craziest and scariest days ever! We had to take Cade in at 6:00am for his surgery. He looked so cute and sweet laying there in his hospital bed. Of course, Grammie, Pappy, Aunt Andie and Grandma came to support us! Cade loved his balloon Grammie brought him! It was so hard seeing them wheel my baby off in a metal crib. Thankfully they didn’t have to give him any meds because he was so tired he just fell asleep. (7:32am) About 9:18am the urologist called and told us that he had did great and was in recovery. They would be calling us in to see him soon. When we got back to the recovery room he was screaming like crazy as they said he probably would coming out of anestia. They had me give him so juice and change his clothes. They made sure he was going to keep the juice down and then told us he was doing so great we could go on home. By 10:25am we had been discharged and were in the car headed home. It was amazing to see God’s hand helping us through this morning…by the time we left there had been at least 4 doctors and nurses that had played some role in his surgery that I knew!
The next part of the day is even hard to remember because it was so crazy! We got home and things seemed to be ok but we started to notice Cade having trouble breathing. He was making a horrible, scary sound that was really starting to panic us! I just remember laying in the floor next to him scared to death. We called the urologist because we didn’t want to just over react if this was considered normal after a surgery. His nurse had us call he pediatrician, which was out on vacation, I talked to her nurse and told her the concerns. She said she could get us in with another doctor later in the afternoon but if we thought he needed to be seen before then to take him to ER. I can’t remember exactly how it all happened but they ended up having us bring him on in to see Dr. Christian at around 2:30. She was very concerned, which scared us even more! We were at the doctors office till about 6:10. They had given him 3 breathing treatments, a steroid shot and taken chest e-rays. It looked like the breathing tube from surgery irritated his airway and along with that possibly the anesthesia had triggered maybe some asthma. Needless to say, we had to go to Mother Frances ER. Once we got to ER, Jennifer Robb got us checked in immediately and grabbed the on call doctor to come over and give Cade a look. She was a blessing! Basically said the same thing the pediatrician had said and just wanted him to stay overnight to make sure his oxygen level stayed up. He told us that he would not have them put an IV in because he didn’t feel like there was a need at the time. After several hours some paramedics came down and said they were told to put in an IV… I was not happy and questioned that! But ok if it really needed to be done that was fine. What a nightmare!!! They had Daniel and I holding him down while 2 guys tried putting it in and not being successful after several tries. Cade was livid!! They decided to just forget the IV, thank the Lord! Finally, around 10:30pm we were moved to a room. Cade seemed to be feeling better but Daddy on the other hand was not feeling too well. Daniel went on home to try to get some sleep so he would feel better. It was a very long night because a nurse was in every so often checking his oxygen level and doing breathing treatments. What a day!
October 16, 2009 – Cade had a great night! His oxygen was back to perfect! Praise God!! There was still some swelling in the upper airway but steroid meds were being given for that. We had many sweet visitors come to check on us! Daniel was really feeling poorly so I had him stay at the house! Around 1:43pm, Dr. Melton was the on-call doctor, she said he looked and sounded great! She was sending us home soon with some steroid meds to use over the weekend! What a rough time for Daniel to be sick! Packing-up a little one and trying to get everything loaded up and get home, whew! We were abundantly blessed with the most amazing friends and family! Not to mention a wonderful Lord! Cade and I got home around 3:10pm but Daniel was at the doctors getting swabbed for the flu! When it rains it pours!

January 13, 2010 – Started thinking of places to have Cade’s 1st birthday party! Today was extremely frustrating!! We decided to take Cade in to see the urologist because his “area” just seemed to be swollen still. I was about ready to scream when I left his office. He said that it looked like Cade would need to have surgery again!!! What??? He wasn’t even very clear on what was wrong and scared me to death talking about the risk of infertility! Daniel was out of town at a meeting, so of course I called him very upset. I was not thrilled with this doctor by any means! After talking with Daniel and Judy, we decided maybe it was time to see a pediatric specialist in Dallas! Thankfully a good friend recommended one that she thought very highly of!
January 14, 2010 – Today I felt very relieved and thankful that we were able to get Cade in with the specialist next week!
January 17, 2010 – Sick baby boy again and another ear infection! This time it was a double ear infection!
January 20, 2010 – The tornado sirens went off so we had to hang out in the bathroom for a while. It didn’t bother Cade, he just wanted to play with the toilet paper!
January 21, 2010 – We went to Dallas to take Cade to the urologist. We REALLY liked this dr.! Yes he stills needs surgery but we feel more comfortable and have more information. They called it a secretory hydrocele. He will have surgery in Dallas at Children’s Hospital and will be admitted over night just to be on the safe side because of the previous experience. It will probably be in March. They will go in and repair the hydrocele and put drains in on each side, temporarily to drain out all the fluid. They were not concerned about the risk of infertility, which was a relief! We thank God we were able to get in with this doctor!
January 22, 2010 – My frustration level was at it’s max!!! Cade started running fever AGAIN, called dr. and they are switching his antibiotics and prescribing a cough suppressant. Also going to refer us to an ENT because they said he has been way too sick lately!

March 5, 2010 – Today is the big day for surgery #3! We got all checked in to Children’s Hospital at Legacy. It is so nice! Everyone there is friendly and you can tell they have a passion for kids. We got Cade in his hospital gown and the nurse came in to get all his stats. Dr. Ewalt and the anesthesiologist came by and check on Cade and us. Then they gave Cade some versed to drink! Ok, I have to admit at first it was funny cause he got all giggly but soon after that he was just out of it and lifeless! That was kinda of scary! We felt very confident that this surgery was going to take care of everything. Heck, I think we had nearly the whole state of Texas and some of Hawaii praying for Cade, us, and all the doctors! He went back around 9 or 9:30 and at 11:30 they called to let us know that everything had went very well and so far he was having no reaction from being put under. The anesthesiologist had stayed with him through it all and then did a coddle block to help with the pain management. They told us if he continued to do this well we could possible go on home. Finally, they allowed just me to go back to see him and help start waking him up. I loved the fact that they didn’t try to rush anything they just wanted him to ease out of it. I tried to get him to drink some juice but he really wasn’t interested, he just wanted to sleep! The nurse showed me his incision and the drains and buttons … I thought I might get sick! Wow! Cade was one tough little guy! Seriously, there was an incision across his testicles and then the drains, which looked like an inch piece of a straw on both sides, hanging out and then these little buttons that were sewed on his skin under the drains to hold them in place! It was indescribable! Finally, they moved us into a recovery room but he was still having a hard time waking up. They said that was fine and not to rush him. Of course they were monitoring his breathing and oxygen level and it was doing perfect! Once he finally woke up and drank some juice, they showed me how to take care of his incisions and let us go on home! Praise God everything had went successfully!
March 7, 2010 – Cade slept all night without waking up for pain meds. He cracked me up because you would have never known he had just had surgery… he was crawling around and chewing on his toes! Sweet Amanda Brandt brought us dinner!
March 8, 2010 – I’ve found a new addiction - - etsy! I found a lady, Makmaydesigns, to make Cade the perfect birthday shirt! It’s going to be precious, just like him! Today another sweet baby was born and a GIRL!!! Logan Wilson… Congrats Sara & Clint!! She is beautiful!
March 9, 2010 – Cade and I headed to Dallas to visit The Ray’s and for Cade’s dr. appointment. Cason and Cade played and then we took them shopping of course! We stopped in the Rain Forest Café but Cade wasn’t having that! Cason loved the talking tree!
March 10, 2010 – We went to visit Dr. Ewalt. They removed the drains and buttons… YEAH! But oh my it looked so painful and Cade was not a happy camper! They said he had a small infection where the drains were but that we would just do antibiotics for that. Everything else looked great!
March 16, 2010 – It’s official and has been for a while but I was sad to admit that Cade’s first word is . . . Daisy, our dog’s name!! That’s right not just a simple momma or daddy!

March 27, 2010 – So excited for Cade’s 1st birthday photo session! I ordered his birthday cake and his “smash cake” for the photos today from Amazing Grace Cakes. She did an amazing job! His “smash cake” is adorable!!! Oh, and his birthday shirt I had made had got here in time for today’s pictures! It rocks! We went downtown and took some pics by the different graffiti walls and then went to Shiloh Road Park for him to do his “smash cake”. Now that was a huge mess! Red icing everywhere and it evens leaves a red tinge on your skin! We had to try to clean him up in the park bathroom sink! It was pretty funny! Then Brooke came to the house and finished up the photo session by taking pics of him taking a bath! Thank you so much Brooke! You are out of this world! Tonight Cade is spending the night at Grammie’s for the 1st time!

Length: 30 ¾ in. - 78%tile
